After a week break because of an outbreak of something called the "Halo
2 flu" (which is silly since everyone was at the office playing the game
that afternoon/evening) our intrepid heroes were back in action this
week.
Recovering the small humming black stone wasn't too difficult the
previous day, so our heroes rested and recovered from that escapade.
After spending a couple days forcing the hyperactive Geech to identify
some magical items, our heroes moved quickly towards where they believed
the exit to be.
Moving past where they encountered the howler creatures a couple days
earlier, the party encountered a locked door that even the skilled Geech
couldn't open. They spent several minutes on it, but decided to move on
after they began making too much noise. Further down the same hall, were
some mysterious holes in the floor and ceiling, right above each other.
Determining that it wasn't a trap they could trigger, the party quickly
moved across and into a new hallway they hadn't explored. In a nearby
moss-covered room, they found a lever, and pulled it. The resulting
clanking and crashing sounds presented them with a set of iron bars
crashing down from the top holes into the bottom holes. Not fazed by
this in the least, the group moved down the corridor to the next door.
The next room was a large circular one, the floor covered in debris,
smelling and feeling of great evil. Huddled together in fear, the group
began slowly crossing the circular room with many doors, figuring they
could get out on the other side. Not so, however, as out of the many
shadows in the room sprang several ghouls dressed in knightly armor and
gear! They surprised the heroes easily, and began tearing them to shreds
with longswords, and not claws! Everyone fought back as best they could,
and Ulfgar was able to rebuke several of them away. However, Naphilme
and Geech managed to break away, drawing several of the knightly ghouls
with them back towards the moss-covered room.
When Ulfgar and Zachary finally killed the two ghouls facing them, they
rushed to help Geech and NaphilmeŠonly to find four of the ghouls
slaughtered, pulled apart at the joints, and an unconscious and dying
Geech with Naphilme's bow next to him, in the middle of the bloody mess.
While Ulfgar used his healing skills on Geech, Zach noticed that the
steel bars blocking the hallway were severely bent and covered in furŠas
if a creature tore its way through them to escape...

Our heroes began this episode camped in a hallway, after observing
that they never were attacked in hallways before, and they were
therefore safe. Thankfully they happened to be in an abandoned section
of the dungeon, so it proved to be a safe choice.
Even though the map they managed to filch from the dead bugbears
pointed in one direction, Geech had to investigate another path, and
led his friends astray from the path they believed would get them out
of this nightmarish hell of a dungeon. They encountered a room with a
magic pillow, another that had a beautiful short sword held fast by a
statue of a hobgoblin warrior, and more Blink Dogs, who didn't receive
Naphilme very well when he tried to calm them.
Fleeing that side trip, Geech stumbled across a door which looked to
be locked tight (lock marred), and the door jammed shut. From behind
the door they could hear howling from some sort of dog or dogs. With
no fear in his heart, and a concern for some trapped dogs, Geech
picked the lock open. Naphilme burst into the room, to try and calm
the animals, only to have (what they learned later to be) Howlers jump
on him and begin tearing him to shreds. Moments later, the group had
survived the encounter...but the heinous aftermath of pulling out
barbed quills went on long into the night.
The next "morning" they were off backtracking to the point where they
thought the clues led them to this treasure. Passing through several
hallways, avoiding Bugbear patrols, the group came to one of the major
joints in the clue, when Geech turned a corner and was attacked by a
Dire Wolf!! His efforts to fight it were ineffective, and he backed up
out of its reach quickly. Ulfgar moved to intercept, and Naphilme took
up a firing line behind them with Zachary. However, as soon as
Naphilme came into view, the Dire Wolf immediately moved to attack
him, doing some serious damage before the group could kill it. After
more resting and healing, they were back on track. They followed the
clues to the place where the treasure was located...4 stones in & 6
stones up. The activation of the secret door showed a cramped room
with a pedestal in it, and upon the pedestal was a humming small black
stone. Geech handed the "skipping stone" to Ulfgar who pocketed it as
they left that room and began the trek back to where they began this
side trip, two days ago...
Quote:
Ulfgar - "should you be hitting that chest with your mace?"
Geech - "Yup...it won't open."

Geech - "There we go...it's open...what? Broken Glass? What a waste of
time!

After stowing the gear they found in the dead elves' packs, and
several minutes of inspection of the 15x15 room they were trapped in,
our heroes began working on several avenues of escape. Ulfgar and
Zachary began trying to remove stones from the walls to try and reach
the hallway, Geech began to use all of his tricks to try and reset the
trap that had covered the door with stoneŠand Naphilme combed the
floor, walls and ceiling for possible secret doors. When all seemed
lost, Geech cast an open/close spell on the wall trap, which seconds
later, began to roll back and reset. After using some acid they were
able to mangle the double doors enough to get out of that room.
Dragging their exhausted frames through the hallways, the group
encountered a room that had a rusty sword hanging from the
ceilingŠafter realizing it was trapped, they decided to leave it
alone. Geech shortly discovered some talking in a room they were
passing by, and snuck in to see what was going on. There was 1
sleeping bugbear, and 2 bugbears chattering in front of a map of what
looked to be that region of the dungeon! They were talking excitedly
about killing off the goblin tribes to the southŠwhich angered Geech.
He pulled the magical mace he nicked off of one of the dead elves, and
promptly reversed the direction of one of the bugbears' knees! This
set off a quick combat, and when the rest of the PCs burst into the
room, they all made quick work of the bugbears. Ulfgar spent about an
hour copying the map into a blank book of Geech's, and they were off
to the east to find a way out of the dungeon!
The group made several side trips into some dead end rooms, one with a
well that Geech found some potions at the bottom of, and Naphilme
discovered why you let the rogue goblin check EVERYTHING before you
touch it (rock fall traps hurt a LOT). Finally they discovered a wood
paneled room that had a SACK full of what appeared to be treasure
inside of it. Geech snuck into the room, with everyone watching at
the door, which promptly slammed shut in their faces when the sack was
touched. A white powdery substance exploded into the room from cracks
in the wooden walls, and it began to eat at Geech's skin. He ran for
the door, quickly picked the lock, and ripped it open! However, when
he opened the door, the poisonous dust flowed into the hallway and
right into the rest of the party! Zach caught a mouthful of it, and
went down, his skin tightening and looking like he'd aged 50 years!
Ulfgar was unaffected and bravely charged into the room, grabbed the
sack and returned to the party completely unharmed. Many gold pieces
were had, as well as some vials of a mysterious clear liquid.
Next week! The long and arduous trek to Region C!

Eric S. - Naphilme "phil" or "dirty elf" (Elf 2nd level ranger/1st level

NPC/Former PC - Bruin (Dwarf 3rd level fighter)
After an exhausting day, Zach took first watch for the night, followed
by Bruin, as the rest of the group was thoroughly exhausted. Somewhere
in the middle of the night during Bruin's watch, Ulfgar and Zach were
jarred awake by Naphilme's screams of agony! They shook the sleep from
their heads and rushed over to where the elf lay, near the door. "Phil"
was covered in some serious scratch wounds, near death, and could only
mutter..."Bruin...it...got...Bruin." He passed out while Ulfgar tended
his vicious wounds.
Zachary examined the hallway, and found Bruin in a pool of his own
blood, neck broken ,with many bite marks and scratches covering him. As
he examined his dear compatriot, around the corner walked Geech,
whistling a happy goblin tune. Terrified that one of his friends may
have become a were-creature, Zach drew his bow and waited for geech to
make an offensive or suspicious move...but none came. He sauntered up
with his pushcart, amazed at Zach for being scared of him...and
proceeded to care for Bruin's body (while rummaging through his
pockets). They quickly regrouped, barricaded the door, and Ulfgar
announced he would take watch in case the were-creature came back. Both
he and Zach were suspicious of Geech and Naphilme, since they knew that
the were-rat known as Longtail was dead...and one of them could be the
creature.
When they were all rested, the group set on their way. They explored a
couple of rooms, one that had several pillars with ancient writing they
couldn't decypher, and another covered in vines that had a floor covered
in thick ash. Finally, after two days, they encountered some living
beings...well former living beings. They came across the leftovers of an
encounter between what looked like a Bugbear scouting party and a Goblin
scouting party. Both sides were completely slaughered...with broken
spears and clubs littering the room. The party was quickly attacked by
two strange-looking flying creatures. One scrap later, and the two
creatures were dead, after nearly ripping Zachary's head off.
Tired from miles of walking, the group was looking for a place to rest,
and saw a set of double doors down the hall, and rushed for them. Going
inside, they found an empty room with a small door set into the wall.
They turned to leave, but found the double doors unable to open. Then
the spikes sprang from the wall across from the double doors...and then
it began moving toward them! They hacked the smaller locked door to
pieces and forced their way into the smaller room nextdoor. To their
amazement, it was a small 15x15 room littered with corpses and their
packs. The spears passed the doorway, and all the group could see behind
it was stone! THEY WERE TRAPPED!

(yes I killed the dungeon designer...flowers and chocolates are welcome)
Last week, our intrepid heroes were left standing at a new door in a
side hallway. While Vrobag tried to direct Geech on how to open it,
Bruin finally caught up with our heroes, and his return was well
received by all. But the hugs and high fives didn't last as a terrible
screeching was heard along with what sounded like a lightning bolt. They
rushed back to the door to find Vrobag lying on the floor, smoking.
Geech told them how he'd pushed ahead of him and tried to open the door,
but set off what appeared to be a trap. Checking their friend, they
believed he was dead, said a few words and pressed on to find their way
out of the dungeon.
After searching about the new area for a short while, they encountered
another "room within a room" and sent Geech to check the door. Zach and
"Phil" followed a little too closely, and were caught in a trap that
Geech set off, but managed to dodge away from. Dusting themselves off
and getting a little healing from a chuckling Ulfgar, they opened the
door to find a large golden idol in the room. When Bruiin rushed in to
grab it, he was pelted by sharp metal shards from the ceiling...and
stagged back out of the room incredibly hurt. They next tried to grab it
with a grappling hook. This triggered another trap that they were all
lucky enough to escape. When they managed to pull the idol free of the
room, it turned to ash in front of their eyes and they heard the traps
reset. Severely dismayed at this, the group rested for a bit while Geech
went off to investigate a nearby door. Minutes later the rest of the
group heard a loud "SLAM" and rushed over to find the door blocked with
a wall of stone!! Geech was gone...
After trying to force their way through the stone door, something caused
it to shoot up into the ceiling of the door frame, and they quickly
rushed through the door behind it...to find a room of mirrors. Ceiling,
walls, floor...all were mirrors. The magical light from the everburning
candlestick played havoc with their vision for a little bit, but lit the
room up rather nicely. They tethered themselves together and walked the
room, but found nothing. Ulfgar was the one who was lucky enough to spot
the way to disarm the mirror room, and the group moved on to Cross a pit
filled with snakes, and skip a few other rooms that may have been
trapped.
The opened a door near a recent battle scene and encountered a starving
Blink Dog, who started to follow them after they fed it. The next room
contained a statue of an angel holding a exquisite real spear...the
plaque beneath revealed that the dungeon apparently was a prison of some
sorts, and this statue was here to help protect it. When Ulfgar
approached the statue, two glowing things streamed out of the statue's
eyes and attacked both he and Naphilme. They were quickly dispatched
after burning both party members with beams of light. Each of them tried
to remove the spear from the statue, only to be electrocuted. When
Ulfgar managed to chip the arm off of the statue, the spear crumbled to
dust.
Agreeing that they were all injured and needed a rest, they camped in
the room with the statue, hoping to find Geech the next day.

This week picked up right where it left off last week. After Longtail's
disappearance in the middle of the battle, our intrepid adventurers were
left to clean up the mess. After Geech discovered a lone orc in the
outer hallway, our heroes were suprised to find their old "leader",
Vrobag, returned after being held captive for over a week with some
"large stinky lizards" in another part of the dungeon. There was much
rejoicing as he helped them investigate the rooms surrounding the
defiled temple.
They raided what they found to be Longtail's sleeping area, taking his
bedroll, some small amounts of coinage, and his everburning candelabra.
While checking the rooms next to the temple, Geech, Zachary and Naphilme
were caught by a fireball seemingly out of nowhere. With Geech nimbly
dodging out of the way, Zachary and Naphilme caught the full force of
the blast, and were knocked back into the other room smoking and
unconscious. Geech quickly cast the Shield spell he had learned from the
Kobold Wizard's book, and dove fully into combat with the massive
WereRat. Seconds later, when the rest of the group arrived to see the
bright lightshow of a short magical battle and entered the room to find
a broken and unconscious Geech in the hands of LongTail.
Ulfgar dove into battle with the creature, after drawing the silver
dagger that Geech had given him a couple days earlier, and bringing down
the blessings of Loki upon it. They fought fast and furious, and
Ulfgar's unflinching fighting ability forced the lycanthrope back. He
fled the room as more of the revived PCs began to rush the room he'd
been hiding in while invisible. Before he could escape the room, Vrobag
quickly forced the door closed with a spell of his. Cornered, Longtail
attacked the nearest person, Naphilme. Nearly being knocked out a second
time, Naphilme nursed the bite wound while trying to fend off Longtail's
attacks.
Seeing that he was on the ropes, the entire party surrounded Longtail
and beat on him mercilessly until Ulfgar managed to slice one of his
legs off with his silver dagger. After promptly dying, Longtail turned
back into a human, finally free of his lycanthropic curse...Naphilme
tried to hide the look of horror on his face as he realized what was
wrong with this person, and that he could have...no...he wasn't going to
think about it, OR talk about it.
After a night's rest in the Owlbear's former lair, the group decided
that it had to press on, without Bruin, so they moved back to a couple
of rooms they had passed earlier. One was obviously a sprung trap of
sword blades sticking out of the floor. After Geech shrunk himself down
to slip between them, and discovered a room beyond, they monkeyed with
the blades a bit, and eventually used Ulfgar's shield to lay against it,
hopefully trying to break it. That actually did more than they wanted,
and with enough force was able to reset the trap, scaring our group of
adventurers even more! Finally determining that the trap was broken and
not going to spring again, they moved forward to a steaming-hot room
with a brass plate (that set Geech on fire when he touched it) and a
locked door. They finally pried the door open, and made their way
further into the dungeon...

Mike C.- Ulfgar (Dwarven 2nd level cleric of loki)
Pat K. - Zachary Bock (Human 2nd level scout)
Kevin M. - Geech (Goblin 1st level rogue/1st level wizard)
Eric S. - Naphilme (Elf 2nd level ranger)
Nate B. - Bruin (Dwarf 2nd level fighter)
The most recent session opened with our valiant anti-heroes resting up
in their "safe room". Just as soon as they fell asleep, Ulfgar returned
(bootless) to the room to their great suprise. Geech was ecstatic and
quickly returned Ulfgar's boots to him. When asked where he had been,
all Ulfgar could say was..."Loki is trapped here...he said that we need
to save him." This prompted many other questions that Ulfgar couldn't or
wouldn't answer. After quickly tending to wounds on both Naphilme and
Bruin (who apparently had been stung and poisoned by a mysterious
invisible creature on the way back to the "safe room").
The next "morning" Bruin elected to stay in the "safe room" and rest up
to get the poison out of his system, while the rest of the group
explored more. After meandering back to their last explored location,
the group found a room with a large brass plate in the floor, next to a
gigantic block of basalt. Geech checked it for trap, and suddenly
disappeared from the rest of the group's vision. He appeared in a room
that was dark and had very little air. He quickly searched around,
finding some silver daggers, jumped back on the matching plate in the
new room, and appeared back in front of the rest of the party.
Moving on, they discovered a rampaging Owlbear, and when it began to
chase them down the hall, Ulfgar stood in it's path to try to save his
friends. The creature charged him, slicing him hard, but he
retaliated...and with a multiple exploding critical hit (it's a house
rule that Leader uses for low level characters) hit the Owlbear for 52
points of damage, killing it in one blow! He seemed to go into a blind
rage, and hacked the Owlbear to pieces, covering himself in the
creature's blood and feathers. Quickly agreeing that they needed to
explore and rest in the Owlbear's lair (no creature would want to come
near that area), Geech began to make "Owlbear stew" while the rest of
the party cleared out the dead Darkmantles in the room, leaving "the
mighty" Ulfgar to rest and recover his senses.
Later on while they rested (and worried for Bruin's safety), Naphilme
was attacked by some invisible insect-like thing, that managed to sting
him in the back of the neck. The group woke to search for it, but
whatever it was, it was gone.
When they were rested, the group pressed on to explore a nearby room,
and to their amazement found a desecrated temple to an unknown god. In
the middle of it was a gigantic black and red swirling mass. While
investigating it they were attacked by what appeared to be a large
were-rat, who referred to himself as "Longtail" and how they would pay
for violating his sanctuary. After fighting with the were-rat for
several rounds, a Darkmantle popped out of the swirling vortex and
attacked the party, while the invisible insect attacked Naphilme again,
this time revealing itself as a vicious Imp! Naphilme managed to fight
it off while the rest of the party overcame the darkmantle and Longtail
turned invisible and retreated vowing revenge.

Vol 1 Issue 4
This
week opened with our intrepid adventurers resting in a "safe room" they
had found the week before, which has both a water source and access to
food. However, their rest that first night was interrupted by a kobold
party that had just come back from patrol to find their tribe utterly
destroyed. They tracked the PCs back to their "safe room", but were
distracted by the magical water source.
This gave them away to Bruin, who with the help of a sleepy Naphilme,
managed to kill 2 of them before the kobolds fled in terror.
After walking further into the dungeon's hallways than they had
previously, and avoiding the still smoking trash room, the PCs
encountered a gigantic hall with many bodies left over from a battle
that had raged there some time ago. They explored a bit in the room, but
nothing useful was found. Only after they had found a door leading out
of the hal did the group notice that Ulfgar was missing.
In shock, they quickly canvassed the area they had walked through, only
to find Ulfgar's boots, and some dwarven scrawled on the wall reading "loki
calls to you". After much weeping on Geech's part, he tossed Ulfgar's
boots into his cart, and they moved on, missing their harsh cleric
friend.
The group then encountered a group of six darkmantles out for blood.
Down a member, and not fully prepared to deal with 6 of these creatures
at once, the PCs fought a losing battle for most of the combat, though
finally coming out victorious. However the victory was not without cost.
In the final part of the battle, Geech charged a darkmantle fighting
Bruin, only to be smacked so hard that he was knocked unconscious and
dying. He awoke in a dreamlike state, hearing a human female voice
calling to him. Stumbling forward in the dark, Geech found a room that
had a large pool of water, with a hand reaching out of as if to say
"help me". Shrugging his shoulders, Geech pulled the woman from the
water. She looked up at him and said "Zarianna thanks you..." There was
a pop in his mind, and he awoke screaming, his wounds completely healed.
Geech was left wondering...who was this Zarianna? (Because she didn't
seem to look like what he thought Odin looked like, nor did she have a
beard...)

This week found our intrepid adventurers cleaning up the mess after
their encounter with the kobolds on Map A. They managed to loot many
slings, spears and a couple of goodies off of the kobold wizard.
While poking through the many remains of bodies, a new PC crept up on
them. This week, Eric Steiger, new employee at AEG, joined the group
with his Elven Ranger.
Naphilane had signed a contract with an old man he met at a tavern to
split whatever he found in the dungeon 50/50 with the old man, and to
work with the group he was to catch up to. Catching up to the PCs was
easy, as they weren't too hard to track, even in the dungeon.
Following their swath of destruction, Naphilane caught up to them, and
proceeded with caution. The PCs took the caution as a threat, and
immediately attacked him. After a few seconds things were resolved when
the contract and old man were brought up. The two dwarves in the party
were offended that a stinky Elf was working with them, but they took
great pleasure in making him one of the advance scouts.
After much exploring of many passageways and rooms with lots of rubble
and detritus in them, they discovered a fountain of magical water that
would heal them (1 hp per day) if they drank the water.
After stocking up, they continued their journey further into the
dungeon. Accidentally finding a secret door, Naphilane led the group
into what appeared to be a room full of all of Map A's garbage,
festering there for a millennia. After defeating a couple of swarms of
fiendish rats, Zachary dumped a flame arrow into the garbage pit,
igniting the methane gas, and clearing out that room.
For their troubles, the party all went up a level... and Geech began
reading that strange book he found on the kobold wizard...

Last night, AEG marked it's return from the Gencon hiatus, diving back
into the weekly dungeon-crawl with fervor. This week saw them assaulting
the home of the Kobold tribe on map A. Our excitable group also had some
character changes, as one of our players couldn't make it (jim pinto -
Vrobag - who disappeared during one of his practical jokes), and another
bled to death after wounds suffered right before the first episode
concluded (Kevin M. - R'ragnar - now switched to a new goblin rogue
character). The group met their newest member, a goblin rogue/scavenger
named Geech, who had been living in the same 4 empty rooms in the WLD
for over a year, fighting an endless war against the kobolds in the room
next door.
The party's new friend Geech helped them strike at the Kobolds living in
Section A, knowing they would help him be victorious over their powerful
leader (level 4 kobold wizard). Everyone charged into the Kobold tribe's
home, and fought a mighty battle against all 7 of the kobold warriors
and their wizard, suffering numerous wounds and battle scars, but were
victorious nonetheless.

Kevin Millard - R'ragnar (1st level CE human barbarian)
Pat Kapera - Zachary Bock (1st Level NG human Scout)
Nate Barnes - Bruin (1st level CN dwarven fighter)
The first week of play in the World's Largest Dungeon found our intrepid
1st level adventurers seemingly in over their heads. After becoming
trapped in the WLD, our heroes tangled with several traps (including a
burning hands trap that continually beat on them and a scythe trap that
almost took off Zachary's legs), and a couple of Orcs who didn't stand a
chance. They scouted over 15 rooms, and ended the night in the middle of
a surprise round instigated by some kobolds who were pelting Ulfgar with
sling stones. When asked why they were attacking the PC's, Slesh'gak the
kobold replied, "Well, they never shut up...always shouting at each
other down corridors and falling into traps. We haven't got a wink of
sleep since they arrived!"
