Dungeon Mail Vol I, Issue 11

Current Players:
Mike C. - Ulfgar (Dwarven 5th level cleric of Loki)

Kevin M. - Geech (Goblin 4th level rogue/1st level wizard)
Eric S. - Naphilme "Phil" (Elf 3rd level ranger/2nd level fighter)

After a week break because of an outbreak of something called the "Halo 2 flu" (which is silly since everyone was at the office playing the game that afternoon/evening) our intrepid heroes were back in action this week.

Recovering the small humming black stone wasn't too difficult the previous day, so our heroes rested and recovered from that escapade. After spending a couple days forcing the hyperactive Geech to identify some magical items, our heroes moved quickly towards where they believed the exit to be.

Moving past where they encountered the howler creatures a couple days earlier, the party encountered a locked door that even the skilled Geech couldn't open. They spent several minutes on it, but decided to move on after they began making too much noise. Further down the same hall, were some mysterious holes in the floor and ceiling, right above each other. Determining that it wasn't a trap they could trigger, the party quickly moved across and into a new hallway they hadn't explored. In a nearby moss-covered room, they found a lever, and pulled it. The resulting clanking and crashing sounds presented them with a set of iron bars crashing down from the top holes into the bottom holes. Not fazed by this in the least, the group moved down the corridor to the next door.

The next room was a large circular one, the floor covered in debris, smelling and feeling of great evil. Huddled together in fear, the group began slowly crossing the circular room with many doors, figuring they could get out on the other side. Not so, however, as out of the many shadows in the room sprang several ghouls dressed in knightly armor and gear! They surprised the heroes easily, and began tearing them to shreds with longswords, and not claws! Everyone fought back as best they could, and Ulfgar was able to rebuke several of them away. However, Naphilme and Geech managed to break away, drawing several of the knightly ghouls with them back towards the moss-covered room.

When Ulfgar and Zachary finally killed the two ghouls facing them, they rushed to help Geech and NaphilmeŠonly to find four of the ghouls slaughtered, pulled apart at the joints, and an unconscious and dying Geech with Naphilme's bow next to him, in the middle of the bloody mess. While Ulfgar used his healing skills on Geech, Zach noticed that the steel bars blocking the hallway were severely bent and covered in furŠas if a creature tore its way through them to escape...

Worlds Largest Dungeon Meets the Worlds Ultimate Gaming Table

 
AEG Owner John Zinser, Dungeon Master Mike Leader, and CCG Lead Designer Dave Williams get the table set up for the Tuesday Night grand opening of the Worlds Largest Dungeon. They were able to fit around 40 of the 1600 rooms on the gaming table.
   

August 9, 2004 (ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA)

So it begins. Mike Leader prepares to lead AEG’s staff into World’s Largest Dungeon starting next Tuesday. Mike, a seasoned game master of almost 20 years, looks at the World’s Largest Dungeon as the Tour De France of adventures. “I plan to take on the bulk of the work running the adventure but we are prepared to make it a team effort. There are a number of qualified DM’s ready to step in should I need them but I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and am up to the task at hand.”

Mike has had each of the AEG staff create 2 characters before even stepping into the dungeon, an omen of things to come I am sure. Product organizer and writer Jim Pinto is prepared to join the adventuring party. “This project will really put my photographic memory to the test but I do remember that I need to look under that rock in the northwest corner in room B-41 of region B.”

 
The Ultimate Gaming Table (Thank you Peter Adkinson) comes complete with Special Area for the GM to set up, miniatures cases, a glass grid for mapping your adventures (When you are not using Wiz Kids nifty dungeon tiles or your Dwarven Forge dungeon pieces), and a level below the playing surface for player to put their books and characters.

Mike Cochran one of the first to “Officially” adventure in the World’s Largest Dungeon has chosen an Evil Dwarven Cleric of Loki as his first character and plans on backing him up with a Halfling Ranger if the dice are favorable when he rolls him up. “It was an easy choice really. It’s the World’s Largest Dungeon so a dwarf makes sense and an Evil Cleric. Lets just say when I use the healing on myself no one will be surprised.”

Big Big Day at AEG Offices

July 26, 2004 (ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA) — The first copy of The World’s Largest Dungeon arrived at the AEG offices today amid a fanfare similar to the one Shaq received in Miami last week.

“Why not?” said Dave Williams a designer and sports fan at AEG. “The Worlds Largest Dungeon is bigger than Shaq and its free-throw percentage is just as good.”

The Mayor of Ontario offered AEG the keys to the city in the hope that one of them would keep The World’s Largest Dungeon locked up.

Nate Barnes, long time gamer and graphic designer at AEG. (Seen here holding a copy of The World’s Largest Dungeon and standing next to the full sized map) said. “I love it when new products show up at the office. It gives us an excuse to screw around, and it usually takes the bosses an hour or so to realize we are not getting any work done.”

John Zinser added. “In this case I think I can let Nate slide. Since we actually have the book and maps in-house now, it would seem that someone was actually working during this last nine months.

When asked about the absence of The World’s Largest Dungeon lead designer jim pinto, Zinser denied any wrong doing. “It is completely untrue that working on this project killed Jim Pinto. He is alive and well, and doctors tell us that he should recover from the trauma by Gencon. As for his emulation of Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean, that is his normal behavior.”
